Grant Money
Special Project Grants are Available!
A total of $150,000 is now available from ArtsinStark, The County Arts Council, for Stark County non-profit organizations who propose projects that grow the arts to create smarter kids, new jobs and healthier communities. This will be the only round of Special Project Grants from ArtsinStark this year.
For projects to be considered, they must be completed between January 1 – December 31, 2009 and fall into one of two focus areas: SmArts and Innovation. SmArts grants are only awarded to local schools and, therefore, all schools must apply in this category. Detailed information about the focus areas is included in the Guidelines, which will become available, along with grant application forms, starting on Monday, October 6 at www.artsinstark.com. (click on the “Grant Money” page). The application deadline is Friday November 7.
Innovation
Designed to fund creative projects that break new ground. This can be a project that is new to Stark County or new to a demographic not normally served by the organization.
SmArts
This category is meant to fund partnerships between schools and arts organizations to supercharge learning around core subjects. Short-term partnerships, (3-9 months) initiated by a teacher or team of teachers, tied to specific educational objectives with some type of measurement, are the goals.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact Anne Wadian the ArtsinStark Grants Officer at 330-453-1075, ext 204 or via awadian@artsinstark.com. Forms can also be obtained at the ArtsinStark offices located at 900 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton.

FAQ about Public Art
Q: I am an artist and I want do do a piece of public art. But, I would like an ArtsinStark grant to complete it. Can I receive one?
A: Mini Grants and Special Project Grants are available from ArtsinStark. The next round of these grants will be available in the Fall 2008. At this time, however, grants are only available to non-profit organizations and not individuals. As an individual artist, you may seek to partner with a non-profit organization to apply for one of these grants and thus make the project a piece of public art that will benefit the community.
It is a common misconception that ArtsinStark distributes money directly to individual artists and arts galleries. Our primary means to distribute funds is through our grants. Information for the next round of grants will be available in the Fall 2008.
